Plan the plaster finish around your Buderim renovation

Before changing a room, decide which walls, ceiling details and finishes you want to keep. K & J Interiors welcomes Buderim enquiries for repair work, replacement linings and renovation plastering. Show us where new work will meet original surfaces so retention, preparation and finishing can be discussed together.

01

New plasterboard for extensions & altered rooms

Plan wall and ceiling linings around the rooms being added or changed. Identify where new plasterboard joins existing surfaces, which finishes are staying and what other building work must be completed before installation, setting and sanding.

02

Square-set junctions, bulkheads & shaped walls

Changed room layouts can call for new junctions, ceiling levels or architectural features. Discuss square-set edges, bulkheads and curved-wall setting alongside the framing and retained finishes so the preparation is part of the agreed plastering scope.

03

Retained cornices & decorative plasterwork

If decorative plastering is part of the room's character, decide what should stay before removing linings. Photos of cornice profiles, ceiling details and nearby damage help us discuss repair or replacement options without assuming an exact match is available.

04

Ceiling repairs & replacement linings

Define the affected area before choosing a patch, partial replacement or new ceiling. Where water or mould has affected plasterboard, the cause of moisture and any specialist treatment need to be addressed separately before new linings are reinstated.

Painting & carpentry within the renovation scope

Tell us whether painting is limited to repaired surfaces or includes whole walls, ceilings or rooms. Relevant carpentry can also be discussed, with the quote distinguishing plastering preparation, paint finishing and other agreed work.

Repair planning before new linings go in

When a ceiling or wall lining is damaged, discuss the condition of the surrounding plasterboard as well as the visible area. A renovation may be an opportunity to replace affected sections, but the extent should follow assessment rather than an assumption that every surface needs removal.

Address moisture causes before replacement. Any specialist mould treatment or drying is separate from the removal and reinstatement of plasterboard. Tell us which adjacent cornices, walls or fittings need to be retained so protection and repair boundaries can be discussed.

  3. 03

    Define the paint scope

Confirm whether painting covers repair areas or wider surfaces, and include relevant carpentry requirements.

Discussing a plastering job in Buderim

For a Buderim renovation or extension, include a room overview, close-ups of retained decorative details and photos of the junctions between old and new work. Tell us whether the home is occupied, how the rooms can be accessed and which other trades need to finish first. The existing Buderim area page provides the broader plastering, painting and carpentry overview; this page focuses on planning the plastering scope.

Buderim plastering questions

Can existing cornice or decorative ceiling details be kept?

Identify the details you want to retain and send close-up photos of their condition and adjoining surfaces. Retention, repair or replacement depends on the detail, its support and the proposed work. An exact profile match should not be assumed before assessment.

How do new plasterboard linings meet an existing room?

The junction needs planning around the existing lining, framing and finish. Tell us where new work meets retained walls or ceilings and whether those adjoining surfaces will also be painted. This helps define the installation and finishing scope.

Should a ceiling be patched or fully replaced?

A patch may suit localised damage with sound surrounding lining. Wider damage or issues with the lining support may require a different scope. Photos can start the discussion, but a stain or crack on its own does not establish what should be replaced.

Can I change from cornice to square set during a renovation?

It may be an option, depending on the junction, framing and existing surfaces. Describe which rooms you want to change and what is being retained. The quote needs to cover the junction preparation and finishing, not just cornice removal.

What needs to happen before water-damaged lining is replaced?

The source of moisture must be addressed first. Discuss any required specialist drying or mould treatment separately, then agree on removal and replacement of affected plasterboard. Reinstating lining alone is not a moisture or mould-remediation service.

Will painting cover only the plaster repair or the whole surface?

Make that choice explicit when requesting the quote. New plaster and repaired areas need paint preparation, but painting a full wall, ceiling or room is a separate scope decision. Include the surfaces you want painted and any relevant carpentry work.
